At the same time, the decision defines the general strategic objective of SIA “Rīgas ūdens” – to ensure customer-oriented, continuous, safe, high-quality, accessible and economically sound water utility services, as well as the sustainable and secure use of water resources significant to Riga and the management of strategically important infrastructure, while promoting public involvement in the prevention of water pollution.
In accordance with the Law on Governance of Capital Shares of a Public Person and Capital Companies, a public person must re-evaluate its participation in a capital company at least once every five years. The previous decision of the Riga City Council on retaining the municipality’s direct participation in SIA “Rīgas ūdens” was adopted on 7 July 2021; therefore, a new evaluation had to be carried out no later than June 2026.
